ArtMiddle School Art
6th, 7th & 8th Grades Middle school art will present a thorough guide for the student through use of elements and principles of design. Students will explore two-dimensional mediums such as pencil, pastels, charcoal, watercolors, and tempera. Subject matter may include landscape, figure, and still life subjects as well as abstract compositions. Art history will be introduced in context through the use of reproductions, books, internet, and videos. The art process will focus on skills and techniques to create art work in the various mediums. Assessment will be a continuous process that meets the given criteria. You can view the full art curriculum on the district’s web site www.farmington.k12.mi.us under fine arts. Students will experience the creative process from the conception of the idea through its construction. Grading Every student comes to art class with a different ability level in art. The main goal of this class is to improve the student’s skills as artists. With that goal in mind, it is important for each student to give 100% effort while in this class. Homework is only given if a student is absent for an extended period of time or does not use class time wisely, and therefore has not completed a project. If the students come to class each day and give 100% effort, following the procedures/objectives of the project, they will not only earn an A+ but they will also improve in their skills! That is my goal and hope for each of my students. If a student is unhappy with a grade that they earn on an assignment, they can always continue to work on it, and turn it in at a later date to be re-graded. All work must be turned in at least 1 week prior to the end of the card marking. Late Work The students will be given a due date for all assignments. Work will be expected to be turned in by that date. If the project is not completed by that date, it will be graded on the portion that is complete and the student can continue to work on that assignment and turn it in at a later date to improve their grade. All assignments must be turned in 1 week prior to end the of the card marking. _________________________________________________________________________ Help The art room is always in need of newspaper, soap, magazines, plastic containers with covers, yarn, beads, buttons, shells, paint shirts, etc… If you are getting rid of something and think that we can use it, please ask!
